Visiting the lodge and wanting to eat? We've got you covered, you just need to decide if you want to eat out or cook indoors!

We’re excited to have you as our guest and want to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible. Whether you're in need of some essentials, craving a delicious meal, or looking to explore local shops, we've got you covered!

Here’s a quick guide to the closest shops, grocery stores, and must-visit spots nearby to help you settle in and enjoy your time here to the fullest.

Please check the opening times of each business for the time of the year you will be visiting, these can vary and sometimes be seasonal. These businesses are not associated directly with Adventure Stays, if we have visited them personally and had a pleasant experience, it will be 'recommended'. If we don't say we recommend, it is because we haven't visited personally. We recommend however, to do your own research and let us know if you find a hidden gem!

Up to 10 minutes Drive

Glengarry Filling Station - Inverness-shire, Invergarry PH35 4HL

If you're in need of the essentials, the petrol station just a few minutes drive away from the lodge, we recommend grabbing those little bits from this lovely garage.

Well of the Seven Heads coffee & takeaway - By Spean Bridge, Spean Bridge PH34 4EB

Just opposite the lodge on the other side of the loch is this wonderful cafe, they do the most delicious take away breakfast and lunch. As they open at 5.30am I highly recommend for those days that you're heading out on a day of exploring and need to fill up on some amazing Scottish food for the day. (check opening times for the time of year you're visiting).

Invergarry Hotel - Hotel, Invergarry PH35 4HJ

With just a short drive towards Invergarry you will quickly spot the hotel that is on corner of the village. If you're looking for something a little more high end and wanting to enjoy a nice meal out during your stay. Call ahead to book a table for your party to eat at the hotel.

The Whispering Pine Lodge - Loch Lochy, Spean Bridge PH34 4DZ

This restaurant has one of the best views you could ask for, situated directly alongside to Loch Lochy you are immersed in to the valley with mountains surrounding you as you dine.

Emily's Byre - Rokeby Manor, Invergarry PH35 4HG

Housed in an old byre (cowshed) with a cosy bar, you can find this Indian cuisine just minutes away from the lodge.

Up to 20 minutes Drive

SPAR Fort Augustus - 4 A82, Fort Augustus PH32 4DD

This is our usually stopping places for food supplies as its just 15 minutes away from the lodge, it's located in the town where you could spot Loch Ness and is just such a pleasure to visit. The shop itself is also big enough to have *almost* everything we need, unless its something unique and specific that we're looking for. Highly recommend food shopping trips here.

In Fort Augustus itself, there is lots of cafes, takeaways, restaurants and bars to check out, below I have listed a few, but there are lots more and I recommend doing your own research for each of these!

  • Monster Fish & Chips Co. - 6, A82, Fort Augustus PH32 4DD

  • The Lock Inn - Canal Side, Fort Augustus PH32 4AU

  • Rambo’s Canalside Takeaway - Canal Side, Fort Augustus PH32 4AU

SPAR Spean Bridge, Inverness - A82 Station Rd, Spean Bridge PH34 4EP

Heading south, there is another SPAR shop located 15 minutes away. It's a little smaller than the other but if its on route for you, its still worth the stop off. It will have all of your essentials and more.

Spean Bridge has a few spots to eat out, below I have included a couple of them.

  • Old Station Restaurant - Shire, Station Rd, Spean Bridge, Inverness PH34 4EF

  • Spean Bridge Mill Restaurant - Station Rd, Spean Bridge PH34 4EP

Up to 30 minutes Drive

Whitebridge Hotel - Whitebridge, Stratherrick, Inverness IV2 6UN

Although not a spot I have visited previously, I know many who have and enjoy visiting regularly. The drive over there is worth doing on its own, especially if you're taking the trip out to Foyers Falls when theres been heavy rain fall!

Glenmoriston Arms - shire, Invermoriston, Inverness IV63 7YA

Heading over to the town of Invermoriston is just beautiful, but when you know there are a selection of pubs and restaurants waiting for you, it makes it even better doesn't it? Here is one suggestion, but there are a few to choose from. Take a walk near the Upper falls looking at the river and stop off for a bite to eat before heading back!

Landour Bakehouse - Glen Moriston, Inverness IV63 7YW

Okay. Stop what you're doing. I haven't had the opportunity to visit here (and the reviews look great...I really should visit) but really this is me trying to encourage you to head out towards the Isle of Skye, even if you don't make it as far as Skye, even if you just make it to Waterfall River Sheil. It's my most favourite drive in the highlands and I recommend the drive (and a stop off for some food since that's why youre on this page!)

Fort William is our closest main town, not just home of the tallest mountain in the UK (Ben Nevis), but also to many superstores. There are a few dotted throughout the town but I have included the main ones below;

  • ALDI - Unit A North Rd, Fort William, PH33 6PP

  • M&S Foodhall - Retail Park, Unit 3 North Rd, Fort William PH33 6PP

  • Morrisons - An Aird, Road, Fort William PH33 6AN

  • Lidl - Camanachd Cres, Fort William PH33 6XZ

With Fort William being the town that welcomes visitors from all over, you can enjoy the many benefits of its retails store and also its restaurants and bars, I have included a few below through the town but recommend doing your own research;

  • Black Isle Bar Fort William - Gordon Square, Fort William PH33 6DY

  • The Geographer - 88 High St, Fort William PH33 6AD

  • The Crofter Bar and Restaurant - 11 High St, Fort William PH33 6DH

Whilst I could have easily included this next one on the above list, I felt it deserves its own space;

Ben Nevis Inn - Achintee Rd, Achintee, Fort William PH33 6TE

It technically should be in the 'Up to 1 hour Drive' but because it is just next to Fort William and at the base of Ben Nevis, it takes you around 40 minutes to drive here from the lodge. It is my favourite place to eat out whilst visiting the lodge. The incredible views help make it feel absolutely dreamy, but my gosh, its the food that has me returning. If you're hiking Ben Nevis, this is an absolute must visit. If you're not planning on hiking Ben Nevis, this is also a must visit. Make sure to book a table to avoid disappointment and enjoy!

Up to 1 hour Drive

I feel like this covers such a huge area, and one that I cannot do justice, I am sure of it. So I would like to bring your attention to some main areas, which will have many restaurants, hidden and obvious. Do your own research and discover places you fall in love with!

Inverness

Just one hour away, you will find everything here. This is a main city in Scotland and will have ample shops and restaurants for you to choose from.

Drumnadrochit

Just 46 minutes away from the lodge is the town of Drumnadrochit, with lots of spots to stop off at along the way along the majestical Loch Ness, its a great point to head towards.

Beauly

This is a wonderful village, just over an hour from the lodge, that takes you along winding highland roads as you approach. With lots of lovely cafes to visit, my personal favourite has to be the Corner on the Square, where they sell delicious sandwiches and pastries. But find out for yourself!

Aviemore - Cairngorms National Park

Okayyyyyyyy, this one is a total cheat as it will take you 1 hour 30 minutes to get to the town, but I wanted to add it in as its a wonderful town full of lots of popular places and fun things to do. It's often missed by our guests as they don't realise how close the Cairngorms National Park really is to the lodge!

I'm not sure I can push my luck and add the Isle of Skye on here....its 2 hours away and even further to reach some tasty restaurants BUT just because its not technically on this list, doesn't mean to say you can't go to the Isle of Skye and eat delicious food!

I hope this has been helpful to you, I know its been helpful to me actually writing these spots down, its easy to forget how much really is close by. I'm thankful my partner is an incredible chef and we often have the most amazing home cooked meals direct from the lodge! Either way, we have ample shops and restaurants close by which makes it easy to plan your trip to our highlands lodge!
